    Sidmel was elected as the first female president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in 1991. The following year, Ebony Magazine honored her and her organization in their annual list of America’s Most Powerful and Influential African Americans. It was the first time in the history of NABJ that the historic magazine recognized the organization.
